ROBERT ALLEN
MANDATORY CHALLENGER FOR IBF MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
An Open Letter To Champion Bernard Hopkins.
It's about time you stopped talking and started fighting again. I know I'm tired of
hearing you. I can only assume the media and the few fans you have left can't wait for
someone to shut you up in and out of the ring.
I'm a realist. People will have doubts about me fighting you again. They'll say we've seen
it before. So I knew the only way I would be able to redeem myself and show the fans and
media that I'm prepared to personally silence you was to take one risk fight after another
and to make my actions the sole indication of what the new Robert Allen is all about.
The unbeatable Yankees just lost to a team (California Angels) that was not considered a
threat. However, they were rejuvenated with a new coach and a vision. There's something
about people on your team that you have complete trust and confidence in that brings out
the best in athletes. Harry Barnett is a prime example of someone that believes in me. I'm
willing to put my body on the line for him. Goossen Tutor will only accept sacrifice and
dedication as a condition of promoting me. I gave Dan Goossen my word, that's what he will
receive. Dan has me recognizing the beating I was giving you in our first fight.
So now I ready myself for you again. I did that on July 25, 2002 when I became your
mandatory challenge for the IBF title by stopping Tito Mendoza in a championship
elimination contest.
I know watching that fight gave you flashbacks! How about my trouncing of Dwayne Williams
earlier this year. Or my knockout of previously undefeated Marlon Hayes. Hey Bernard, I'm
back! And Team Allen is better than ever. I'm prepared to make you quit again.
You remember the night when you used Mills Lane to quit in our fight in Las Vegas? I do.
So does Dan. Unfortunately, I let my second opportunity slip by. I made mistakes. It will
never happen again! Well Bernie Boy, I have mowed down everyone in my path to get to you
again.
Money will not stand in the way of our title fight.
The IBF gave you until October 1, 2002 to make the fight. Now I understand that you may
have to fight that well known WBC contender next. Just remember, regardless if its this
fight or the next one, I'll be lurking over your shoulder.
"Let's get it on" as Mr. Lane would say. The sooner the better.
I promise the fans and media, I will not stop until I've shut you up for good. Think of
all the goodwill I just created with everyone with that guarantee.
Sincerely,
Robert Allen
