Update – For Immediate Release
Ali to Fight on ESPN2

Laila Ali, current IBA Super Middleweight Champion of the World and daughter
of former boxing great Muhammad Ali, is set to defend her title on November
8, 2002 against WIBF Super Middleweight Champ, Valerie Mahfood. This
championship bout will take place at the spacious Outdoor Events Center
located at the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas. The fight will be televised
on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights and will let Laila showcase her abilities for
the first time on free TV.

Ali, 12-0 with 9 KO’s, will be defending her belt for the first time since
her total destruction of former champion Suzy Taylor. Laila stopped Taylor
with a barrage of body blows which the likes of Taylor had never seen. With
no way to defend this savage body attack, Suzy Taylor quit. With nothing but
winning titles on her mind, Laila Ali is set to take on any woman who has a
belt she wants, and Valerie Mahfood is next in line.

Mahfood, 13-4 with 7 KO’s, is the WIBF Super Middleweight Champion. Her belt
will also be on the line and she will finally be receiving the attention she
feels she deserves when she faces Ali. Valerie has fought the best women’s
boxing has to offer and has come out on top more than not. She has defeated
the likes of Mary Ann Almager, Trina Ortegon, and the dangerous Ann Wolfe.
She seems to have the confidence to defeat Ali and is prepared for the
fiercest battle of her life.

An exciting undercard is expected as well as Former IBF Cruiserweight
Champion and current #10 IBF contender, “King” Arthur Williams (36-7-1 with
26 KO’s) takes on (WBC #3, WBA #5, and IBF #3) NABF Cruiserweight Champion O’
Neil Bell (19-1-1 with 18 KO’s) in a battle for O’Neill’s NABF title and the
vacant USBA title.

Don’t miss any part of this exciting action November 8th, live from the
Stratosphere Hotel.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, October 8 and can be purchased at the
Stratosphere Box Office. Ticket prices are $100, $65, $50, and $30.
