INDY 500 - AND A LOT MORE

INDY 500

At Canbet (http://www.canbet.com), Greg Ray is the favorite to win Sunday's Indianapolis 500. Ray is currently listed at +550 (11/2) to win, followed by Scott Sharp (+600), Tony Stewart and Gil de Ferran (both +650), and Robbie Gordon (+700). Michael Andretti is 20/1, Al Unser Jr. is 50/1, and Sarah Fisher is 66/1. Plenty of driver matchups available - Fisher, the woman in the field, is actually a slight favorite (-122/-101) over Scott Goodyear, and Unser is a -120/-103 favorite over Andretti.................World Sports Exchange (http://www.wsex.com) also has a few driver matchups posted for the Indy 500 race - most notably Tony Stewart -130 over Robbie Gordon (Even), and Unser -120/-110 over Goodyear........At William Hill (http://www.williamhill.co.uk), Tony Stewart and Greg Ray are both +550 (11/2) to win Indy, with De Ferran at 6/1, Sharp at 7/1, and Gordon at 10/1.......Stewart, as you may know, is going to be racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. He is the outright front-runner (at 5/1) to win Indy at BetInternet.com (http://www.betinternet.com). And Stewart is also the third favorite, at 8/1, to win the Coca-Cola 600. I guess that amounts to about a 54/1 proposition that Stewart will capture BOTH events on Sunday...................

BASKETBALL

Lakers are huge favorites to win the NBA title, by virtue of their 3-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs. Olympic Sports (http://www.thegreek.com) lists L.A. as 1/9 to win the crown, followed by Milwaukee at 10/1, Philadelphia at 14/1, and San Antonio at 70/1. This of course is prior to the result of the third game of the Sixers-Bucks series in the Eastern Conference................Right now at Olympic the Lakers are 70/1 favorites to win their Western Conference title series (-8000/+7000)............At Intertops, the Lakers are 1/10 (-1000) to take the title, with Milwaukee at 7/1, Philly at 10/1, and San Antonio at the monstrous price of 300/1. I guess, though, if you can't win it, it doesn't matter much how big the price is you put up, does it?............At Canbet (http://www.canbet.com), the Lakers are 1/10 favorites as well, with San Antonio at 50/1. The Sixers and Bucks' odds will change, of course, by tomorrow morning.............Lakers are big favorites on the money line to win Sunday's Game 4 at the Staples Center. At the World Sports Exchange, the Lakers are -500, with the Spurs at +350. Perhaps provides some value for those of you who think San Antonio has already given up the ship...........William Hill has already put up a few even money (-110 each way) propositions for Game 4 of the Lakers-Spurs series. They involve total points scored by individual players. Shaquille O'Neal's over/under for total points is 30.5, while with Kobe Bryant it's 33.5. For the Spurs, David Robinson's total points figure is 16, with Tim Duncan at 27.5................

BASEBALL

Barry Bonds is the 7/5 favorite to hit the most home runs in the major leagues this year, according to Sportsbook.com (http://www.sportsbook.com). Carlos Delgado is listed at 7/2, Sammy Sosa at 9/2, Troy Glaus at 5/1, and Larry Walker at 12/1. Mark McGwire is still in the proposition, despite his injuries. He's at 100/1. Ken Griffey Jr., who doesn't have a hit yet, is 100/1 also............Top four teams at Intertops (http://www.intertops.com) to win the World Series are the Yankees at 7/2, Cleveland at 4/1, Seattle at 9/2, and Atlanta at 5/1. The Minnesota Twins, who started out so hot and have still been playing very well, are posted at 18/1..............The World Sports Exchange has the same four teams, in a little different order - the Yanks are 5/2, with Atlanta the second favorite (9/2), followed Seattle (6/1), and Cleveland (7/1), then Boston (8/1)...................

FRENCH OPEN

Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil is the men's favorite to win the 2001 French Open, which starts Monday, according to Intertops. Kuerten is posted at 2/1, followed by Juan Carlos Ferrero at 5/2 (+250), Andre Agassi at 5/1, Lleyton Hewitt at 7/1, Marat Safin at 8/1, and Carlos Moya at 10/1. Pete Sampras, who has never won the French Open, is 15/1. Michael Chang, an American won this title at the age of 17, is 80/1. Over on the women's side, Venus Williams and Martina Hingis are co-favorites to win the championship, at 2/1, with Lindsay Davenport at 3/1, Jennifer Capriati at 4/1, Amelie Mauresmo at 6/1 and Serena Williams at 8/1...........Kuerten is also the 2/1 men's favorite at Canbet, with Ferrero and Agassi at 4/1 and Sampras at 30/1; for the women, Hingis is their stand-alone favorite at 2/1, with Venus at 3/1.............

BOXING

Tonight's Floyd Mayweather-Carlos Hernandez fight, which will be televised as part of HBO's "Boxing After Dark" series, has been posted at Olympic Sports at -1200/+900, with Mayweather, obviously, the favorite. The fight had originally been posted, rather foolishly, with Mayweather the 7/1 favorite (-800/+600). The new figure, which was good as of 4 PM Eastern time, still represents great value for the favorite..........At SportingOdds (http://www.sportingodds.com), you can bet on a prospective Hasim Rahman-Lennox Lewis fight, IF it is Rahman's next fight. You have to lay 9/1 on Lewis (-900), while the "takeback" on Rahman is 9/2 (+450). Lewis is 1/5 to win by KO, while Rahman is 6/1.........Same deal at SportingOdds with a Rahman-Mike Tyson fight. You lay 6/1 with Tyson (-600), taking back 7/2 (+350) with Rahman. Tyson is 1/5 to score the KO, while Rahman is 5/1. Of course, much depends on the series of lawsuits that will start to be heard on June 11; as it stands now, Rahman's next fight is scheduled to be against Denmark's Brian Nielsen on August 4 and would thereby void these propositions...........Intertops has made Oscar de la Hoya a considerable favorite in his June 23 WBC 154-pound title fight against Javier Castillejo. De la Hoya is -1200, while you can get 9/1 (+900) with Castillejo (the draw is 25/1)........ At William Hill of Britain, de la Hoya is bigger favorite, at -1400, while the takeback with Castillejo is less (+650). So little value with either side there. English Sports Betting has de la Hoya the favorite at -1200/+800.............In the August 4 WBA heavyweight title fight between Evander Holyfield and John Ruiz, Intertops have the fight at even money (-110 on each), with the draw at just 12/1. William Hill actually has Holyfield the favorite, at 8/11 (roughly -130), with Ruiz at even money. The same price is available at English Sports Betting (http://www.telebet.com).........William Hill has also put up a price on the prospective junior welterweight unification fight between Zab Judah and Kostya Tszyu, with Judah the -200 favorite, with a takeback of +150 on Tszyu....................

Of course - and this goes without saying - the numbers are subject to change. And some of them have probably changed while I was writing this. For best results, as always, shop around. And remember, we're just reporting; we don't necessarily endorse any of the sportsbooks mentioned here. All info for news matter only.

Best of luck today.
