CHARLES JAY ENDORSES ERNEST HANCOCK FOR U.S. SENATE SEAT IN ARIZONA
Personal Choice presidential candidate cites huge edge in character, ideology over McCain
Elkhart, IN -- Ernest Hancock is well-known in the political world not only as an activist, founder of the Arizona Libertarian Party, and perennial candidate for office, but also for his radio program, "Declare Your Independence", which aired until June 2004 on KXAM and KFNX in Phoenix.
Now, Hancock finds himself in a three-way race for the United States Senate, alongside incumbent Republican John McCain and Democrat Stuart Starky.
CHARLES JAY, the Personal Choice Party's 2004 candidate for President, and someone who through his role as the nation's leading authority on boxing reform has had quite a bit of experience with McCain, offers an unsolicited, ringing endorsement of Hancock for the Senate seat.
Here is his statement:
"I'm sure I don't line up with Ernest Hancock on every issue; that's not unusual, nor is it necessary. But what impresses me about him above all else is that he is a man of faith, and has brought his children up that way, yet at the same time he understands as well as anyone that religion should not be used as a vehicle by government to exert control over the people of this country and other countries. To recognize that is critical, because it is clear that President Bush, with his 'mandate from God', has no sensitivity to a separation between church and state, and has in effect invited all religious zealots to impose their values upon others. 'Government by religion' is indeed a dangerous direction for this nation to be headed.
The thing is, Bush, in the last election, employed dishonest and deceitful religious manipulations to launch personal attacks against John McCain. Senator McCain has been quoted as saying that Bush's Iraq disaster could last as long as 40 years. And McCain, who claims to be a born-again campaign reformer, has expressed his distaste for the soft-money Swift Boat vets attack ads on John Kerry, none of which have ever been directly disavowed by Bush, but which have all been aired with the prior knowledge and tacit approval of the president, perhaps through Ben Ginsberg, a legal counsel common to both the Bush campaign and the so-called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth".
Yet John McCain has not only refused to step down as co-chair of Bush's Arizona campaign, he rolled over in delivering a pathetic, phony speech in support of Bush at the Republican National Convention. The depths to which McCain will go in order to curry favor with Bush and the Republican hierarchy (perhaps for a 2008 presidential run?) indicate just how deficient his character and conviction really are. Has he no shame?
It would be fair to say that I have been a long-time nemesis of Senator McCain, as the most vocal opponent of his forced federal takeover of the professional boxing industry (a business i have been part of). My objection to McCain in this area is not based on pure ideological grounds, but on the fact that he does not even a cursory knowledge of the industry he is trying to regulate, and has not even made a good faith attempt to acquire it. This has resulted in one of the most ill-informed bills ever to be passed around Congress; one that indeed represents an unconstitutional intrusion on state's rights. I have demonstrated McCain's questionable motivation in this pursuit, which may in fact be tied to special interest money from the companies he regulates

McCain has used the boxing issue as a political tool. It's the same case with his self-righteous Bi-Partisan Campaign Reform Act, which has served to further entrench the duopoly of Republicans and Democrats in the election process, bring more "dirty money" into the political system, and suppress genuine freedom of political speech. But it could be argued that one should not expect anything different from a member of the infamous, money-grubbing 'Keating Five', which took well over a million dollars in campaign contributions and other benefits from a savings & loan operator who was buying influence to quash a federal investigation.
Senator McCain is the prototype of the ineffective, uninformed, disingenuous legislator, who has been able to peddle a false image to the public through an artful P.R. machine that has succeeded in selling misinformation to the press.
Arizonans deserve much better. They deserve someone with real substance, a sound ideology, an understanding of the Constitution, solid character, a foundation of honesty, and a commitment to freedom for all Americans.
Remember, the TRUE hero is the one who stands up for the same principles the Founding Fathers intended for this country, without wavering for the sake of political expediency or a personal agenda.
John McCain does not fit that description. Ernest Hancock does.
On November 2nd, cast a vote that will move America in a positive direction - FOR REAL."
