CHANGING THE SYSTEM
The most important thing about the political system that needs to be changed involves the overwhelming dominance of the two "major" parties - a duopoly that is pro-actively perpetuated by its members. In effect, what I would change is the system itself. The ballot access laws in many states are disgraceful, and prevent the opportunity for alternative voices to gain exposure. That seeps over into the media; it ignores parties other than the two "majors" - even when they do cover third-party candidates it is done more as a "novelty" than anything else. Third-party candidates are kept out of debates by an FEC that is comprised equally of Democrats and Republicans. If this were private business, it would be a textbook example of restraint of trade. That this is PUBLIC business makes it even more unconscionable.
